A Journey of a thousand...images.
Ok, so I'm taking a bit of creative license with the famous quote by the Chinese philosopher Lao-Tzu "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step", but then so is most of society because the actual quote, if taken directly from the original script says:
"The journey of a thousand miles begins beneath ones' feet".
An appropriate segue I think as I sit here, sifting through hundreds of images taken and cared for over the years, deciding which to share here on the website.
What type of work will I display?
Good question and the answer is...what day is it?! My tastes change, my photographic urges shift and so you'll just have to stay tuned.
What I CAN say for now, is I am knee-deep in one of the most fun experiences I've had in a long while (photographically speaking...what you WERE thinking?!), and that is capturing the personality, evolution and subsequent rebirth of Detroit, in photographs.
...is a series of images I've captured within the city, showing what many people never see, that even amid the decay...the abandoned buildings, vacant lots and destruction that is real and evident, there is still beauty in not only the past, but the present...and most definitely the future. Graffiti artists, vandals, passers by and mother nature herself have all left their mark.
I mentioned that my Detroit work is a series...and it is. There are so many buildings and landscapes with a rich history...The Globe Trading Company, the Brewster Projects, slowly fading away yet still living, and it is within them where I have spent many an hour to bring the images you'll find on the series.
I've currently got a backlog of several hundred images that I'm working with...and each takes time to bring out the beauty and reality that I see when downtown. So stay tuned as I continue to trek downtown, memorialize both history and present.
It's going to be a great ride!
